Welcome to the fourth episode of The Career Crowd Podcast, Women in STEM – Challenges, Opportunities, and Fearing Failure. In this episode, Mital, Jon, and Ian have the pleasure of interviewing Dr Hannah Roberts about women in STEM.
STEM is a broad coalition of creative, passionate, and dedicated people who set out every day to try to change the world. It might be discovering the next breakthrough cancer treatment, building a new clean energy supply, or teaching others about the wonders of our universe. Hannah shares some insights into the challenges and opportunities that women and girls might face in STEM careers and what can be done to do to help foster a more diverse and inclusive STEM coalition.
Hannah is a career coach specialising in helping women in STEM careers achieve a purposeful career through 1-to-1 coaching, workshops, webinars, mentoring, and sharing free advice and inspiration through an extensive LinkedIn network. She started her own business after obtaining her PhD in chemistry from the University of Manchester and working in a number of academic research roles which included managing multi-million pound projects. She is the mum of three, recently launched a podcast called Women in STEM – Career and Confidence, and as I learned from the podcast is a keen swimmer.
The episode explores Hannah's new direction in coaching and how this can help develop your potential. It's about appreciating our self worth and pushing ourselves to the best of our ability. This episode will certainly encourage and impact those who wish to challenge themselves, help others and foster that inclusion in the workplace.
We end the episode with a recurring segment that we like to call “Career Fear.” In this episode’s “Career Fear” segment, we focus on the fear of failure and how we should celebrate our failures to enable us to grow and develop.
